Himanshi Goyal is an Indian artist based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, studying Fine Art at the Städelschule. Her practice centers on painting and drawing. Her early work was inspired by Édouard Vuillard and developed through charcoal drawing. Her recent work turns to dining scenes on wood, which look at isolation, intimacy and doubling, and to drawings of kittens on raw canvas, which consider agitation and the hostility that appears almost as soon as they are born.
Alongside this, she is currently working on a series drawing on hunting cosmologies and rock art, exploring the connection between animals, images and food. Its starting point is the early belief that making an image of an animal could help ensure a successful hunt, and with the possibility that an image might, eventually, lead to eating.
